Kelly and Kael's wedding day was so incredible and pretty much exactly what I wish everyone's wedding day could be like for them that it's hard for me to know where to begin when describing it. I guess I'll start by saying that Kelly's smile was so big and infectious all day long. Her bright attitude and playful nature really set the tone for the day. Kelly and Kael have already been together for 7 years, but that didn't stop them from taking in the enormity of what they were doing and letting the emotion flow. I had to hold myself together when I heard the clang of the autoharp at the beginning of Cat Power's Sea of Love. That's the song I picked to walk down the aisle at my wedding and I have to admit I can't listen to it without tearing up just a little bit. Seeing Kelly and her dad walking down the aisle to that very same song put a lump in my throat and brought back that rush of walking toward Geoff on our wedding day. I can only imagine what Kael must have been feeling seeing the two of them walking toward him. He did manage to make it through his vows despite the intense emotion threatening to rob him of his voice. I really loved that when Kelly said her vows in return she had a special one that was just for him which she whispered into his ear so that no one else could hear.
It was such a perfect day and even the weather seemed to want to do its part to make it special. It had threatened to rain during the preparations but stayed nice and dry and evenly covered with clouds. And after the ceremony was over the sun decided to pop out and light up the cocktail hour and reception with its warmth. There were multiple speeches that were all very well done, not too long or short, funny with just the right amount of sentiment which anyone who has gone to more than a few weddings can tell you is not always the norm, haha. We got to make use of the B Lazy 2 Ranch's incredible setting complete with wildflowers, fields, a super cute barn decorated with a bunch of fun kitsch, and of course lovely mountain views which turned an incredible shade of purple as the sun set. Inside the tent, Kelly and Kael's incredible DIY rose gold painted concrete succulent planters and air plants not only looked hella chic but provided a pretty kick ass party favor for their guests. The little air plants I took home are still going strong! They opted to do a raffle for prizes to places like The Fiddly Fig in Kansas City, a bottle of Tequila, and a gift basket from Second Star to the Right a children's book store that Kael's family owns in the Highlands of Denver. Kelly and Kael are animal lovers so all of the proceeds from their wedding raffle went to Maxfund.
And I still haven't even described what incredible dancers these two are! Usually you might see that one person in a couple is pretty decent but Kelly and Kael are both dance floor demons with moves that I would describe as wildly inventive and creative and also look damn good! I truly hope that someone at their wedding got some good video for them because the pictures absolutely don't do them justice.
Kelly & Kael,
Congratulations! You two are definitely killing it!

Last week I drove south to Colorado Springs to meet up with this very fun family who was visiting from Iowa. One part of their family moved out here to Colorado Springs not too long ago and the rest of the family took a summer road trip to come visit and enjoy a little bit of family time while enjoying the scenery. And boy is the scenery hard to beat when you are in Colorado Springs. Garden of the Gods is one of my favorite places to photograph because of its pretty and dramatic red rock formations sprinkled throughout the park. It also has incredible views of the gorgeous blue snow covered mountains that Colorado is known for. We met up at the Visitor's Center and I had them follow me around the park stopping at the various picturesque places I had scoped out ahead of time. We were even able to beat the rain and get one last great shot of the family all together before we called it a night and they headed off for their ice cream treat. This is just a small handful of the great photos we were able to get with the family.
My favorite with the whole family together!
Iam so pleased to share this seriously awesome young lady on the blog today. Mary is the daughter of one of my good friends and is super sweet. It can be so uncomfortable being in front of the camera but she was game to try all of my silly prompts; "Yes, do a dance right here on the sidewalk in front of everyone!" Haha, I promise it wasn't as painful as I make it sound. We had fun wandering around the Rino Art District in North Denver taking advantage of all of the awesome street art. We're all Stranger Things fans so we had to get a photo with the awesome mural created by the Arty Deeds crew. And of course, I always want to stop by Gemma Danielle's gorgeous geometric mural at Crema Coffee at Mary's senior photo session was no exception. I was having so much fun with my buddy and her great kiddo that I could have kept photographing but as with all sessions, the sun was setting and it was time to call it a night. Check out some of my favorites below!
Alyssa and Trace fell in love with each other when they met at their school's graphic design club back in Wisconsin. And since moving here they have both fallen in love with the great outdoors of Colorado. They love to go hiking, rock climbing, snow-shoeing, and camping. I follow Alyssa on instagram and it's epic shot after epic shot of gorgeous Colorado scenery that they find on their adventures. They even had a special place they had picked out for their engagement photos where they like to go rock climbing. I find that pretty awesome considering there are plenty of couples who have no special outdoor place even after living here for years! I thought it was pretty fitting that the wedding venue that they ended up going with (Wedgewood on Boulder Creek) was nestled right alongside Boulder Creek just into the Boulder Canyon a few miles from Pearl Street. It definitely had a similar vibe to Clear Creek Canyon where we did their engagement photos and I think was the perfect place to share their love of Colorado with all of their visiting friends and family who traveled out of state to come share their special day with them. I absolutely love the Wedgewood on Boulder Creek. Just as it says in their name, the rushing water of the Boulder Creek mountain stream adds a nice ambient noise (not to mention beautiful photo opportunities) and they've also done a fabulous job with the gardens and lawn area. I find that the wedding guests always look so relaxed and happy during cocktail hour there. And their open-air outdoor tent is one of the prettiest in the state with billowing white fabric draped across the ceiling and dotted with large beautiful chandeliers. It's truly a lovely mix of outdoor mountain rustic beauty and formal elegance.
