It's about that time of year when I get to share my sister in law's beautiful family photos. Every year we've been photographing them together and I can't get over how fast this life seems to go by. Each time we meet for the annual family photo my niece and nephews grow bigger their personalities seem to take shape just a little bit more. It's so cool to watch that happen right before our eyes. This year we opted to do their family photos at the Denver Botanic Gardens central location on York Street. I love their dapper outfits and they all looked so fancy this year. Plus the gardens looked amazing and made for a beautiful backdrop for their family pictures. Take a look at how cute these munchkins are now!
Today is part two of Juliana and Mike's awesome summer weekend wedding celebration in the beautiful Buffalo Creek mountain area which is just south of Conifer. Friday night found these two shuffling around the wood dance floor with their family and friends and Saturday was the day that everyone gathered around them on the island by the river to watch them say their vows. Prior to the ceremony, I had the pleasure of spending some time at Mike's cabin where he was prepping for the day with his 5 kids and other close relatives. Juliana was up at her parents home near the dance hall and reception tent. The ceremony took place down by the river with Cathedral Spires rock formation looming overhead in the background. The sky turned an incredible dark stormy shade of blue right before the wedding and the wind picked up. Along with the rushing of the South West Platte River it all provided a lovely and dramatic setting to get married. After the ceremony, everyone walked through the field to get back over to the wedding reception tent and cabins where the majority of the party would take place. Juliana and Mike are so loved by their family and friends that when it was open mike time there were no shortage of speakers ready to come up and sing their praises. After the delicious dinner created by their family friend, Shannon Hughes the party moved into the dance hall where a live band was set up and ready to rock out for the evening. As an added bonus, Juliana's uncle who is a well known blues singer from Chicago jumped in with the band and serenaded the crowd for a few songs. It was an incredible day full of love all around!

Today I am featuring part one of a two part wedding story. Back in August, Juliana and Mike held a beautiful wedding celebration over the weekend with all of their friends at Juliana's family's private mountain retreat complete with cabins in Buffalo Creek, Colorado. Long time readers might recognize the location even though it's a private home because my good friends Meghan and Emily were lucky enough to get married at the family home during fall a couple of years ago. It's an incredible place for family and friends to gather and so much fun stuff around the property to keep the kids entertained. Friday night the family held their annual square dance party along with dinner served by the incredibly delicious Phoenecian Kabob restaurant (located at Colfax and Ivanhoe in Denver, go check them out sometime, you won't regret it!). They have been hosting this square dance every summer and this year was even more special since they combined it with the wedding festivities. Juliana's dad's long time friend was the square dance caller and he wrangled the huge group of family and friends into squares and lines and circles and had them spinning each other all over the dance hall cabin. It was the perfect Friday night pre-wedding activity. What better way to meet other friends and wedding guests than by do-si-do-ing around a big cabin together?

Joe contacted me at the beginning of the summer to look into getting his family on the schedule for some updated family portraits of all of them together. He and his siblings are all grown up now and as we all know, life can get pretty hectic and it's not easy to schedule the whole family. It feels like we didn't get that much rain this summer but poor Joe, every time we did get a crazy rainstorm it happened to be on the day that we had scheduled his family's photo session! I think his family wins the record for most number of reschedules due to weather that I've ever had. Even on our 3rd time trying to get them done, we met up and the rain began. We had to wait it out about 30-40 min before we could even begin the session and I was so afraid we were going to just have to call it and try again on another day. But thankfully, the rain finally cleared up and we were able to get some great photos for them afterward. It's usually not a big deal to schedule outdoor pictures here in Colorado due to our 300+ days of sunshine reputation but sometimes the weather has a mind of its own. We started our photos up at Gross Reservoir in Boulder which has beautiful mountain views and forested areas. And with very limited light left at sunset we managed to squeeze in a 2nd location at Lost Gulch Overlook which also has pretty mountain views and looks out over the City of Boulder as well. I really wanted to fit in this location for them since I love the dramatic rocky landscape there. Despite the weather attempting to ruin a perfectly good family photography outing, they were total champs and I love what we were able to get in our shortened timeframe! Joe, thank you to you and your family for waiting so patiently through the rainstorm to get these! I hope you love them!
