Iam so very excited to share these images on the blog today because they feature two of the most wonderful humans I've met in the past few years. Terra aka Honey Bunches of Chokes and her lady Traci aka Catcher in the Thigh both moved out to Colorado from Arizona a few years ago. At first, it was just Terra who was skating and she made the right choice to come to the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. At the time, I was one of the trainers for our league and we would take turns running a Sunday afternoon basic skating class for girls who were interested in trying out. Traci decided she might want to give this whole roller derby thing a try so she started coming to those skating classes that we called "Derby Days." I quickly grew to love her sweet disposition and hilarious personality. I was a little scared of Chokes at first because she reminded me of someone else I once knew but once I got to know her I realized she was a total doll as well. I recently decided to hang up my skates to pursue other adventures in life and I am so pleased that Terra was my captain for my last season and I got to skate with Traci on the travel team as well.
These two have been engaged for quite awhile so I was thrilled for them when they came up to me to let me know they had picked a date only 3 months away and wanted to know if I had it available. I'm so thankful that I did because it was an honor for me to capture their love photographically on one of the best days of their life. Their families and some of their friends came all the way out from Arizona and it was a crowd full of derby people which I love. And Traci's best friend Chelse (who she also met in derby!) and her family were so generous by hosting the celebration at their beautiful home in Conifer. It's hard to believe they planned such a beautiful ceremony and reception in such a short amount of time but it just goes to show what you can do when you have the love and support of so many people. They said their vows in the front yard with all of these people there to witness and partied into the night in the backyard where they had built a wood dance floor decorated with beautiful string lights to illuminate it. One of the best parts of the party was when they gave a nod to the way that they met and what has become such a big part of their lives by roller skating their first dance together.
Traci & Terra,
Wow, you did it! I'm amazed and impressed by you two so often and it did not surprise me that you created such a wonderful wedding day together with all of your family and friends. I look forward to photographing you two through more of the joy that this life will surely bring to you. I am so grateful that we met and became friends.
Love you both!

Whoo hoo, I just finished up the retouching for Sarah and Mitch's beautiful wedding which I can finally share on the journal. It was truly a beautiful day with the sun and the storm competing for the sky which makes for a very dramatic backdrop for their wedding pictures. Sarah prepped for her big day at her parent's house in Steamboat with their sweet doggies keeping us all company. The sky opened up and poured down an epic rainstorm while she was in the make up chair and we figured that would be the end of that. When we made our way up the mountain in the gondola we noticed some dark clouds off in the distance that were heading our way. They managed to finish their simple and sweet ceremony in time but we were only able to get through a few of the formal photos up there before the lightning scared us off. Luckily we found a few places around Aurum restaurant where their reception was held to finish up the group photos and the Yampa River at sunset made for some very pretty photos too. Sarah and Mitch looked so happy to not only be getting married but to be spending such a lovely day with their closest friends and family too.

So hard to pick a favorite but this one is up there:)
This family was made up of a bunch of wise crackin' brothers and sisters who got together with their kids for the matriarch of their family. She wanted to get a nice portrait of all of them together and so they all met up with me at the Clear Creek History Park on a hot summer Sunday afternoon to pose for some group photos with her. I'm always impressed with big families who are somehow able to coordinate everyone's schedules to do something like this and I think it's so worth it to get a nice family picture together.
Imet Erin many years ago when we were both roller derby skaters for Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. She's since moved on from skating, but she's an incredibly athletic person and does more running than I could ever dream of doing. She runs so many races and marathons that I can't even keep track of it. Almost every summer she and her girlfriends spend days in a van taking turns running across the mountains of Colorado. She's a super hero athlete and also super sweet too which is why I was so happy to hear that she met Aaron. They are such a great match and not just because they basically have the same name;) It's awesome to see her so comfortable in his arms. Despite the hot temperatures, their wedding day was absolutely gorgeous. We started off with hair and make up at the Oxford Club Spa & Salon before moving on the the Crawford Hotel suite where Aaron and his buddies got dressed before leaving the room for Erin and her gals to use after. The Cooper Lounge was nice enough to allow us to use their bar space for their first look and a few portraits before heading over to the Denver Botanic Gardens on York Street. Denver Botanic Gardens has redesigned one of their wedding spaces called the All-America-Selections Garden which is where the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner took place. It's a really nice location with a very modern style overhead covering to keep guests from baking in the heat and nice and open on all sides to enjoy the gardens. I particularly liked the water lilies found on the edges of the space. After dinner, the party moved indoors to the Gates Hall and Gates Garden Court where the dancing and merrymaking continued throughout the evening.

Aaron and his cousins have a fun family tradition where they vote on who gets to keep the "Cousin of the Year" award every time they are able to get together.
This bridesmaid's reception footwear is on point and a much flashier version of switching into flats:)
Love this one! There should be more twinkle lights in the world:)
