elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Doggie Family Photos | South Mesa Trail Boulder, Colorado

November 11, 2014

Oooh baby it’s so cold outside! It’s funny how surprised everyone seems to be seeing snow and cold temperatures today. It is November right? I suppose every year that first shock of freezing cold air hitting your face is rather surprising no matter the fact that you know it’s coming. I used to be one of those people who really hated winter. My birthday is February 5th, right in the dead of winter when the fun of seeing snow has worn off. I always wanted to have a pool party for my birthday when I was growing up and was jealous of my brother who could host them to his heart’s delight being born on August 5th (which happens to also be my half birthday and yes, I did try to steal his thunder on more than one occasion, haha). People insist that snow is “magical” and I always wondered how they can conveniently forget what it’s like to scrape it off of their car windows on freezing cold mornings.

Despite still holding on to the idea that winter is a bit of a nuisance, I’ve grown to embrace the good qualities that it brings. It’s the time of year when work slows down a little bit for me and I can recharge my creative mind. I get to spend more time snuggling and watching movies with my husband and the cats and I have more time for cooking at home too. That may not seem like much, but it’s really little things like human hibernation which are making me the most happy these days.

A cold winter day is the perfect atmosphere for a long editing session at the computer too. I write this post at my work desk settling in for a nice long post-processing session and it’s always easier to do this when it’s miserably cold outside. Today I get to post the sneak peek for Jonathan & Kayci. I photographed their wedding last year at the Tapestry House in Fort Collins and I was so happy to hear that they wanted to get photos taken for their Christmas card. When I photographed them before, they only had Bodie their adorable little black dachshund. This year they have a rambunctious new family member named Herbie who helped round out their family. We met up at the South Mesa Trail near Eldorado Springs to get some bright autumn color in the pictures and this location was definitely a winner for that. So enjoy these warm autumn pictures on this cold snowy day!
