elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. Gross Reservoir Boulder Family Photographer | Lost Gulch Overlook in Colorado

November 5, 2017

I recently had the pleasure of meeting this rambunctious, loving family to get some updated family portraits for their mom. It was definitely a high energy photography session and I found the kids quite charming. I’ve made a lot of use of Lost Gulch Overlook this season since my go-to favorite of South Mesa Trail has been out of commission with construction efforts from the City of Boulder. This family is from California and got to do family photos on the beach in the past. Knowing that, I decided we should try to get a handful of photos over at Gross Reservoir before moving on to Lost Gulch for sunset photos. I know it’s not even close to the kind of water they got at the beach in Cali, but I’m hoping the mountain views at the lake helped make up for it. It was a pretty hazy day so I decided to abandon Gross Reservoir a little early since it was nearly impossible to see the mountains through the filmy smoke in the air. At Lost Gulch Overlook we started off with a talk about being careful over on the rocks since a tumble there could be quite dangerous. After the serious speech about being careful, we went and scrambled around a little bit on the rocky outlook and played some games and had fun together. All of the good-natured ribbing and messing around between all of the siblings even made me miss my own grown up brothers and sisters. I loved that they were all game for sitting for a few individuals too. Here are some of my favorites below!

Be sure to check out the FAMILIES page of my site to find out more information about booking your own family photos!
