Iabsolutely LOVE photographing headshots for people who need some awesome photos to show off their personality through a picture. Getting a high quality headshot or beautiful business branding images that you can use on your social media, your website, and any other place where you will be showing off your business online is one of the best ways to put your best foot forward right from the beginning of a new client relationship. I mean, I can't be the only one who thinks to herself, "Man does this person even care about anything?!" when I see amateur looking photos plastered all over a professional website can I? I know, I'm probably a little more picky as a photo connoisseur who does this for a living but I know that real every day people can see the difference between a professional photo and one that just has an instagram filter slapped on it from your cell phone and depending on the vibe you are trying to portray (like, professional maybe?) your photo will say a lot about you before you even open your mouth.
This is why I was so excited that Renee got in touch with me about updating her professional business photos. I did her daughter's senior photos last spring and she decided it was time to get some updated pictures of herself that she could use on her small business website as a therapist. She is based down in Colorado Springs so we wanted to do a beautiful natural area and Garden of the Gods is the obvious choice for that. It's incredibly recognizable so when clients see her in that scenery they will know right away that she's a local in Colorado Springs. We also thought it would be great to change up the scenery and get some urban photos with city lights in the backdrop. She is a super sweet person and very calming to be around so I can just imagine how great she must be at her job as a therapist. I think these photos definitely show her in that light and the public is sure to see what a warm, inviting person she is!
Saved my favorite one for last!

Icannot believe it's already that time of the year when I sort through all of my favorite photos taken throughout the previous wedding and portrait season to curate my absolute favorite shots from each session and wedding. It's usually not too difficult to narrow it down to a handful of favorites from each photography shoot since that's what I do for all of them for the sneak peek blog posts. But only getting to choose 1 out of all of them? That's not easy at all! But I like the challenge and it's so cool to look back and see all of the great people I got to meet and the ones that I have developed relationships with and see how much they've changed throughout the years. I also love creating this year in review journal entry since the photos help me relive all of the happy memories that were created with all of them. In 2017 I found myself driving up from Denver to the beautiful mountains of Colorado more than ever to photograph all of the families on vacation in this gorgeous state. This year I continued to mix in various headshot sessions of the lifestyle variety meaning on location and showcasing a more environmental approach to the traditional business headshots normally seen. I find that my high school senior work is also along this same vein mixing the traditional headshot type of photography with photos that are more environmental. One of the best new places I discovered for this type of work is in the Rino/North Denver area but I also enjoyed photographing more seniors in the high country this season. I also greatly enjoyed reconnecting with couples whose weddings I photographed years ago who are now growing their family. And speaking of photographing weddings, I had so many kick-ass couples this year that I definitely feel spoiled! I photographed my first wedding in Crested Butte which I have somehow never had the chance to visit before despite growing up here in Colorado and it was incredible! I returned to some of my favorite places like the Wedgewood on Boulder Creek, Arrowhead Golf Course, Denver Botanic Gardens and I even got to photograph another family wedding on the same private property in Buffalo Creek. I was also privileged enough to photographed some new beautiful venues like Church Ranch Event Center here in the metro area, Della Terra Chateaux in Estes Park, and a lovely little ranch called B Lazy 2 Ranch in Fraser, Colorado. I was also so excited that I finally had the opportunity to photograph the Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park which I've always wanted to do and it was a derby girl wedding no less so that made it even more fun for me to do. There are plenty more exciting opportunities I was lucky enough to cover this past year but in the interest of getting to the good stuff (the photos!) I'll end here.
Thank you SO MUCH to all of my marvelous clients who made 2017 such a beautiful year for me. I can't express my appreciation to all of you enough! I hope that I get to reconnect with many of you in 2018.
Enjoy the 2017 best of the best photos below!
I'll end with my favorite vacation photo from 2017:) I wish you all a very happy new year! Best wishes for 2018!
Iget to feature one of my oldest derby friends on the blog today. Lauren and I go way back. I first met her over 10 years ago when we were both skating for Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. She and I were actually both on the league's very first travel team roster together. She moved to Georgia for a little bit but it's pretty great to see her back here in Colorado. One of the best things about the work that I do is that every so often I get to reunite with old friends. We laughed about the time that I made everyone pose for a league calendar as a fundraiser and how far we've both come since then. Lauren is based in Fort Collins right now and she's a wonderful writer. She wanted to get some headshots done for a new website she's working on. We thought it would be nice to show her enjoying the great outdoors of Colorado in the pictures. One of my favorite places in the Front Range for great mountain views is Lost Gulch Overlook up Flagstaff Road in Boulder. So we decided to meet up there where there is no shortage of dramatic beautiful blue mountains for backdrops. I also like how the Boulder city lights glow at dusk which also look beautiful in photos. It certainly doesn't hurt to have such a gorgeous model with lovely red hair and blue eyes posing for the portraits too. As you can see in the photos below Lauren and those views go very well together!
Ryan contacted me recently needing to get some updated portraits created both for business and personal use. He's been in the Denver metro area since 2012 and is originally from Oregon so he already has enough photos enjoying the great outdoors and mountain settings so we opted to do more of a lifestyle urban headshot session in the city. The plants are just barely starting to blossom (They are sprouting way too early! I'm sure we'll get another big snowstorm. Or at least, I hope that we do!) so it makes sense to photograph in downtown Denver during winter. We decided on meeting at Little Man Ice Cream shop and walked all over the area including across the Platte River to get a good view of downtown Denver. One surprise location that I really loved was Forest Room 5 which despite being around for a long time now I've never had a chance to check out until we were walking in the area. I liked their woodsy vibe in the city so we stopped in for a few quick portraits there. I will definitely be checking out happy hour there soon! I'm pretty pleased with the variety of portraits we were able to create in just over an hour in the area. Check out just a handful of them below.
