Website: Chautauqua Events in Boulder
There’s really not much more I need to stay about Chautauqua other than the fact that it’s an obvious choice for anyone who craves a spectacular wedding location. The park boasts incredibly unique views of Boulder’s most famous landmark “The Flatirons.” These amazing rock formations have been a favorite with my clients throughout the years as a beautiful backdrop for their photographs. There are also multiple trails with lovely foliage which give a nice variety of scenes for your photos.
Another feature about Chautauqua that I find particularly attractive is the age and quaintness of the cottages and buildings throughout the park. They are adorable places that they actually rent out to vacationers so it would be an incredibly convenient place to stay for those guests who are coming to your wedding from out of town. When you look at the photos on the walls showing the early 20th century people hanging out and then you look around it’s amazing to see just how similar it all still looks. The Boulder Chautauqua really takes pride in continuing the educational and cultural tradition in which it was founded. It is the only Chautauqua west of the Mississippi that has been using its same buildings in the same way since it was founded. There is a lot more info about the Chautauqua movement on their website so check it out!
Chautauqua Park has various venue options that you can rent for your Boulder wedding. From larger, grand wedding receptions to smaller more intimate affairs, they have just the right space to meet your specific wedding needs. Prices vary and each of the following venues have their own booking limitations so it’s best to get in touch with the folks at Chautauqua directly.
The following is a brief overview of each of the available venues you can rent for your wedding at Chautauqua.
The Chautauqua Dining Hall is definitely the most popular space available for rent out of all of Chautauqua’s wedding venues. There is plenty of room to host a larger wedding here, especially if you add on the large white tent. You’ll be able to host up to 180 guests at a sit down dinner at Chautauqua’s Dining Hall. This historic building looms over the huge oval grass lawn of Boulder’s most popular public park.Right in front of the Dining Hall is a large flagstone patio, perfect for hosting your cocktail hour as guests watch the sun set over the grand Flatiron Mountains.
The Chautauqua Green is actually owned and operated by the City of Boulder so you’ll have to coordinate with Boulder directly to book your wedding on the green. But, it’s by far the most popular outdoor space to host a wedding ceremony in all of Chautauqua and maybe even in all of Boulder! It’s huge, so there will be plenty of space to host a large wedding ceremony there on the lawn. And it’s literally right outside the front steps of the Dining Hall so booking both would be very convenient for your wedding guests.
The Community House at Chautauqua is a beautiful bungalow style house that is much bigger on the inside than it first appears from the outside. You can host up to 80 guests with banquet style seating and I love that the Grand Assembly has a mezzanine that overlooks the lower level making it feel quite large inside. This would be a great option for those hosting a mid-size or smaller wedding and for those who would like an indoor option for a winter wedding at Chautauqua. It also has smaller rooms available for rent if you need a space to host something like a welcome dinner or next morning brunch after your wedding day.
The Rocky Mountain Climber’s Club inside the Community House at Chautauqua has a cozy look with stone walls and a gas fireplace with room to host up to 40 people. The Meadows Room inside the Chautauqua Community House is even smaller and can host up to 24 with banquet style seating.
The Mission House would be perfect for those who want a cozy airbnb style feel for their wedding while also being right there in the heart of Boulder’s most popular park. It has a super cute main room with a stone fireplace and has the space to host up to 35 people and enough room for up to 16 to sleep.
There is a large flagstone patio outside of the Auditorium at Chautauqua where you can host your outdoor wedding. Please note that this location is partially covered during summer.
If you’re looking for something much more laid back, the picnic shelter would be a great option for you. You can fit up to 75 people there. It’s located right next to the McClintock Lower Trail behind the Auditorium which is one of my favorite spots to take pictures at Chautauqua, especially during autumn when the fall color is going strong!
I have plenty of experience photographing weddings and portraits at Chautauqua Park and I’d love the opportunity to chat with you more about your wedding plans. Be sure to check out the WEDDINGS page of my site and get in touch!
