Craftwood Peak by Wedgewood Weddings very recently changed hands. It used to be known as the Craftwood Inn and has a pretty neat artistic history in Manitou Springs.
Craftwood Peak is located in Manitou Springs, one of the coolest little towns in all of Colorado and is located just west of Colorado Springs. It’s very close to Garden of the Gods so if you’re looking to get some breathtaking wedding photos, you will definitely want to leave room in your wedding day timeline to drive through there.
I mentioned that the Craftwood Inn (now Craftwood Peak) has an artistic history because the man who built it, Roland Bautwell, was part of the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century. This style originated in England as a reaction to the damage that industrialization brought on the working people with an emphasis on allowing artists and craftspeople to break away from the monotony of repetitive tasks that industrialization requires. Bautwell was an Englishman who moved to Colorado and built the Craftwood Inn in 1912. Craftwood Peak was originally his Coppersmiths shop and I think it’s so cool that his copper fireplace hood is still there with his logo “CS” (stands for Craftwood Shops) on it. You can read a little more detail about the history of Craftwood Peak on the history page of their website.
The first time I photographed at Craftwood Peak I could not get over how cozy and magical it felt there. It is a one of a kind wedding venue here in Colorado with it’s beautiful garden spaces and the adorable exterior of The Den with its fairytale cottage aesthetic makes for a really lovely backdrop for some of your wedding photos.
There is a large patio space with a wood pergola for you to host an outdoor wedding ceremony. There’s even a nice little waterfall feature in the backdrop for you to stand in front of when you say your vows there. I love that they have this space filled with beautiful potted plants and there are nice mountain views too. From the patio area, you can take a stroll down into the garden closer to street level (Craftwood Peak sits up on a hill) where you’ll find a cool red sandstone gate that makes for a nice backdrop for some of your photos as well.
The Den at Craftwood Peak is the charming fairytale style cottage building that you notice in all of the photos from Craftwood Peak. This is used as one of the getting ready areas on your wedding day and of course makes the perfect backdrop for some cute fairytale style wedding photos.
The Cottage is another beautiful and charming area that you can use to get ready on your wedding day. There is a stone patio right outside filled with pretty potted plants and has lots of mirrors to help with the getting ready process.
The Grand Hall is the interior area of the main building where your wedding reception will take place. It’s a bit dark in this part of Craftwood Peak so you will really want to find a photographer who can photograph in low light for this part of your wedding day. There are large wood beams running across the ceilingThere is a nice dinner area near the incredible fireplace, wood floors, glass chandeliers give it a touch of elegance and I really love the cool stained glass windows and the historic framed glass windows too. It’s not a huge space so this probably won’t be the right fit for someone who’s trying to host a large wedding, but medium to small weddings will be perfect here. I also think this interior space is so nice and cozy that it would make for a very romantic winter wedding location even when the gardens are sleeping under the snow.
