Red Rocks Family Photos on a Pretty Spring Day in Colorado
Long time blog readers may recognize the lovely family featured on my journal today. I met Tia forever ago now when we were both skating at the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls and I’ve been lucky enough to photograph her family nearly every year since she and her husband became parents to these two bright, spunky, hilarious girls. This year we were meeting up earlier in the year than we have before so I suggested Red Rocks this time. Normally Red Rocks is too much of a pain in the butt to photograph at because of the crowds there for concerts during the golden hour (and most people aren’t a fan of waking up early enough for sunrise!). But, this year they’re still just getting back to normal with their concert schedule so it’s still somewhat quiet over there at the Amphitheater. Plus, it’s one of a handful of places close to the Denver Metro area that I think look amazing year round. When we photographed these, the blossoms weren’t quite blooming yet, but the red rock formations looked incredible, as always. The last time I went to Red Rocks for a session, it was actually fairly busy along the roads with lots of motorists. But on this evening with Tia’s family, it was pretty quiet with not as many visitors as I normally see there. So we were able to get the really cool drive through arch in their photos which is usually kind of tricky to get in pictures since the best views are from the middle of the road. I feel pretty lucky that we were able to get that view for them in some of their photos.I picked out a small handful of some of my favorites to share with the world below.
