Piney River Ranch is a rustic wedding venue located on the western shore of Piney Lake in Vail Colorado. This has to be one of Colorado’s best wedding venues with a stunning mountain view. And it’s definitely at the top of my list for favorite vail colorado wedding locations. Seeing the colorful sunset light hit the Gore Range behind Piney Lake is one of my favorite experiences in all of Colorado. This is not an easy place to get to, but slowly watching the sun set at Piney River Ranch is a truly sublime experience that your guests will never forget. It’s roughly a 40 min drive down an incredibly bumpy dirt road so there are no hotels near Piney River Ranch. But there are plenty of awesome accommodations in Vail proper. It’s definitely worth it to consider hiring a shuttle for your guests to save them the stress of that drive. The drive is part of the reason why this wedding venue in Vail is only open for weddings from June 21st until the last weekend in September every year. Piney River Ranch weather is a little unpredictable since it’s so high up in elevation, but they have plenty of indoor space and Colorado storms usually pass by quite quickly during summer. I have actually only seen it very bright and sunny when photographing weddings at Piney River Ranch. 

I think the wedding prices for Piney River Ranch are actually pretty fair considering its location is in the ritzy ski area of Vail, Colorado. Mountain wedding venues in Colorado are not usually considered affordable, but Piney River Ranch wedding packages have a minimum of $7,900 combined food and beverage minimum to book a wedding there. (It’s broken down to $4,600 for food and $3,300 for beverages). This Piney River Ranch wedding price covers 10 hours and extra hours can be added on for $500 per hour. They can accommodate up to 200 people at a wedding as well. Be sure to get in touch and see what they can do for you and your guests! They also have options for those who only want to host their ceremony there with a reception off-site, but those wedding ceremonies must take place Monday-Thursday.

This venue is definitely a rustic adventure to get to with lots of beautiful stops along the way that we could use for your elopement pictures in the Vail area. Because it’s so out of the way, it actually makes a lot of sense to use it as a Colorado elopement spot versus a traditional wedding. There’s no worrying about how to transport a ton of guests all the way up to this scenic and secluded location at Piney Ranch. And it’s the perfect place to do some exploring on your elopement day if that’s what you’re into! There are gorgeous hikes, or you could spend the afternoon fishing or even rent a canoe from Piney Lake Ranch and spend some time on this high altitude lake.

For your more adventurous guests, there is the option to stay overnight at Piney River Ranch. They have 6 Piney Lake Vail cabins both large (can fit up to 8) and small (can fit up to 4) as well as 3 cute glamping tents that can fit 4 people each. The nice thing about glamping at Piney Lake is that they provide linens for you and there are bathrooms. They also allow dogs for a $30 fee per night. They do allow a full buyout of these sites which is perfect for weddings and family reunions. Be sure to check their site for updated prices. For those who are looking to go camping the old fashioned way, there are United States Forest Service sites located just outside of the Piney River Ranch property.

One feature I really like about this Vail wedding venue in the mountains is that they allow Piney Lake engagement photos to be taken on their property. They do charge a fee of $125 but if you’re looking for a jaw-droppingly beautiful location, definitely keep engagement photos at Piney River Ranch on your list of options. I especially like the option of getting Piney River Ranch engagement pictures created if it’s not feasible for you to host a Vail lake wedding but you want pictures in one of the prettiest locations in all of Colorado.
