Shove Memorial Chapel is one of the prettiest historic churches in all of Colorado in my opinion. It was built in a Norman romanesque style of architecture and named after a prominent Colorado Springs business man named Eugene Percy Shove. There is a well-written article about him and the building of this beautiful chapel on the Colorado College website where you can read about his generous donation for building this imposing church in the midst of the Great Depression.
The Shove Memorial Chapel is only place on the Colorado Campus that you can rent for wedding ceremonies and there are no Colorado College wedding reception venues available. Shove Memorial Chapel is a non-denominational church so you may bring in any minister or spiritual leader you wish to perform your ceremony at this grand historic church located quite close to downtown Colorado Springs.
Shove Memorial Chapel is quite grand and can fit a total of 987 people inside it. The main seating area of the lower level can fit up to 600 guests. I highly recommend that when you are looking for a wedding photographer for this particular church that you pay close attention to what their work looks like in low-light situations as Shove Chapel is incredibly dark with almost zero natural light inside. Despite the darkness of this church, I love how dramatic it is inside. Some of it’s more dramatic features that I appreciate are the soaring ceilings, 110 foot aisle, and the stunning altar area. You just do not see many churches that look like this in Colorado. It looks more like something you’d find in an old European town!
If you have an affiliation with Colorado College, you are going to benefit greatly if you want to host your wedding ceremony at Shove Chapel since prices for those with a Colorado College affiliation are cheaper than they are for the general public. If you are affiliated with the school, it’s $1,000 to rent the chapel for your wedding ceremony, but if you are not it goes up to $1,500. There is a wedding staff labor fee of $375 regardless of your affiliation and an administration fee of $150. These prices cover 4 hours for your ceremony with one hour for your rehearsal and 3 hours for the decoration, ceremony and clean up on the day of your wedding. You can find more information about other amenities they offer such as organists and extra hours at their website listed above.I try to keep this page updated with pricing, but please refer to the chapel itself and their official website for the most up to date pricing.
I would love to be your Shove Memorial Chapel wedding photographer. I have tons of experience with photographing in dark spaces and have photographed weddings at Shove Chapel before. Check out the main weddings page of my site and get in touch to tell me about you and your wedding plans!
