Steamboat Springs Resort holds a special place in my heart because it was the first Colorado ski resort wedding I ever photographed back in 2010. I was lucky enough to get to photograph an entire group of local girls’ weddings in Steamboat and I’ve been enjoying photographing weddings here ever since! Nothing beats the gorgeous and serene gondola ride up Mount Werner. Your guests won’t be able to stop oohing and aahing over the views here. Once they step off of the gondola they’ll find beautiful wildflower meadows, aspen tree groves, and mountains stacked upon mountain views for days. Obviously there is a ton of competition, but I think Steamboat Springs resort is the prettiest ski resort in all of Colorado.
The outdoor spaces available to rent for an outdoor wedding ceremony at Steamboat Springs Resort are some of the most incredible that you will find in all of Colorado. The views are dramatic and honestly, sometimes the weather is too. (There’s a reason the resort requires hosting earlier ceremonies in an attempt to avoid the late summer thunderstorms that pass through in the high country). If you can handle the craziness and unpredictable weather that comes with getting married on top of a mountain at over 9,000 feet in elevation you’ll love getting married in Steamboat. The views are so worth the drama, I promise!

The Vista Overlook wedding ceremony site at Steamboat Springs is another magnificent outdoor location. It’s a little smaller and more intimate than Thunderhead Lawn since you have to walk up a dirt trail from Thunderhead Lodge to find it. Once you arrive you’ll be impressed with the expansive views this quaint little overlook has of the Yampa Valley. The Vista Overlook has room to hold up to 70 wedding guests and your site fee includes the white chair rental. Like Thunderhead Lawn, Vista Overlook can also only be booked from mid-June through the end of September and ceremonies can only take place between 10:30am-2:30 pm. A wedding planner is also required at this location.
Another beautiful Steamboat Springs Resort wedding ceremony option is the Grand Pavilion located at the base of Mount Werner on the grounds of the Steamboat Grand Hotel. This is a paved covered patio space surrounded by greenery and gardens and can host up to 200 guests. The elevation at this Steamboat wedding venue is just 6,900 feet in elevation so it might be a good option for couples who are nervous about their guests ability to deal with altitude sickness. You can always build time into your wedding day timeline to take the gondola up with me for wedding photos on top of the mountain and host the rest of your events down below. As with the other outdoor wedding ceremony places at Steamboat Ski Resort, your site fee covers the white chair set up and take down and you must hire a wedding planner and host your ceremony between the hours of 10:30 am and 2:30 pm.
To be honest, Steamboat Springs Ski Resort weddings are all about the incredible outdoor spaces and mountain views. But,that doesn’t mean the indoor reception venues are shabby little old fashioned wood lodges. It’s quite the opposite at this luxurious Colorado ski resort. You’ll have your pick of various wedding reception options at Steamboat Springs Resort ranging from intimate restaurant locales and rustic open air tents to modern, chic mountain lodges with soaring roofs. And of course, you’ll have plenty of mountain views at these beautiful places.
My absolute favorite wedding reception location in Steamboat Springs is at the ski resort at the Champagne Powder Room in Thunderhead Lodge. This is a thoroughly modern ski resort space featuring a huge outdoor deck and enormous floor to ceiling windows so that guests can enjoy the views as the sun sets on the surrounding mountains. You’ll be able to host up to 250 guests here and it is truly a magical space. I’ve witnessed many of the best wedding reception parties of my whole career as a wedding photographer in this location! It’s located at 9,080 feet in elevation so perhaps the drinks go a little further here than in other places? When you book your wedding reception at the Champagne Powder Room you’ll get the Thunderhead Lawn included in your site rental fee as well as gondola rides for all of your guests. The Champagne Powder Room is available from Mid-December through the end of March as well as mid-June through the end of September.
The Four Points Lodge is another large wedding location on the mountain in Steamboat Springs. It has so many incredible features and information that I decided to create its own page on this FOUR POINTS LODGE WEDDING VENUE link.
Timber & Torch is Steamboat Resort’s latest and greatest wedding venue option located at the base of the resort. I love this wedding reception space’s natural light which it gets from its garage style window/doors along one wall of the restaurant. It also has a lovely outdoor patio space complete with overhead string lights and an enormous fireplace to keep your guests nice and toasty on those crisp mountain evenings. One other plus is that this space is available year-round and you can host up to 200 guests there. You have the option of hosting your wedding ceremony right outside it’s doors on that lovely terrace as well.
Hazie’s is the intimate indoor reception venue you’re after for those who are interested in hosting a smaller wedding in Steamboat. This restaurant is also located on Mount Werner in the Thunderhead Lodge and boasts the same spectacular views that the Champagne Powder Room has. You’ll be able to host up to 60 guests here in a warm and cozy setting. Included with your site fee is the use of the Vista Overlook ceremony site when booking during the summer months.
The available options for hosting a reception at Steamboat Springs are seemingly endless and the Haymaker Clubhouse is one more incredible option to consider. This is further away from the mountain at the Haymaker Golf Course just a short 5 minute drive from the base of Mount Werner. I love the beauty of the outdoor lawn ceremony space which features pretty views of the Flattop mountains off in the distance. Another fun feature of the Haymaker Clubhouse wedding venue is that during winter, you can book a romantic sleigh ride for your wedding day. This is a fairly small and intimate space with a huge, beautiful stone fireplace where you’ll be able to host up to 65 guests at your wedding.
I know some of you out there had high hopes of planning a larger affair and don’t worry because the Steamboat Springs Resort has the Korbel Grand Ballroom which can host up to 350 guests inside it’s doors. This is a great option for all of you East Coasters looking to host a destination wedding and are used to wedding celebrations that last well past midnight. (We’re pretty sleepy here in Colorado with most venues shutting down weddings by 10 pm!) The Korbel Ballroom is the space for you since it’s located right inside the Steamboat Grand so your party-goers can easily stumble off to their rooms once they’ve had enough. You’ll be able to host your ceremony at the Grand Pavilion which is included in your site fee with this Steamboat wedding reception location.
The Mountain Foyer is also located at the Steamboat Grand Hotel. This cute patio space features exactly what the name promises and that’s awesome mountain views. This is a great place for wedding receptions, but can also work out quite well for welcome dinners, brunches and other wedding events you’d like to host during your wedding weekend in Steamboat Springs. You can book this space year-round and it can hold up to 80 people.
The Emerald Mountain Tent is also located at the Steamboat Grand Hotel and is another great wedding reception option because it’s outdoors. Being in the beauty of Colorado’s nature and breathing in that fresh mountain air is one of the main attractions for visiting Steamboat Springs so why not extend that to your wedding reception? The Emerald Mountain tent is heated so as night falls and the air gets chillier, you and your guests will still be comfortable. This space is located right next door to the Grand Pavilion so it’ll be easy to host your wedding there and then move over to the tent (which opens up on one side with views of Emerald Mountain) to enjoy the rest of your wedding day. You can host up to 250 guests here and it’s available for summer weddings in Steamboat from mid-June through the end of September.
I hope this list has given you a brief overview of the options you’ll find for your wedding at Steamboat Springs Ski Resort. I have been photographing weddings in the area for over 10 years and would love to hear about your wedding plans in Steamboat Springs. Please take a look at the WEDDINGS section of my website and then get in touch to tell me about yourself!
