The Sunrise Amphitheater on the summit of Flagstaff Mountain is available for weddings between May and October. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933-34, the sunrise circle amphitheater is a rustic outdoor facility made from local stone. It features a large circular area, a small stage, seating for 150 max, and magnificent views of the entire Boulder Valley. A Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater Colorado wedding is only a 10 minute drive up the mountain from Broadway and Baseline Road in Boulder which is perfect for those who want to get married in nature but need to be close to the city for their reception.
There are so many different possibilities for couples who want a Sunrise Boulder Amphitheater wedding. Since this Flagstaff Amphitheater Boulder location is available in both 1 hour and 3 hour time blocks I think it's best used for ceremonies with a reception taking place elsewhere unless you’re looking to keep it short and simple. If you are interested in finding out what a Sunrise Amphitheater wedding costs be sure to check out the pricing page on their website as they have varying prices based on whether the couple is a City of Boulder resident as well as the time of day requested. Rental fees for Weddings at Sunrise Amphitheater are very reasonable ranging from $100-$400. If you want to keep your wedding or elopement simple and close to Sunrise Amphitheater, The City of Boulder also has other facilities and shelters for rent within the same area which could potentially be used as a reception area.
If you’re a couple who likes the idea of keeping it sweet and simple, one of the three following public picnic areas would be perfect to rent for a little reception party after your Sunrise Amphitheatre wedding ceremony. Think along the lines of a potluck, or even a simple catered meal for a smaller more intimate affair. The Stone Shelter Boulder is located within walking distance up the hill from Sunrise Amphitheater. It has a covered area for about 25 people, but for those not afraid of getting rained out, there are 28 large picnic tables there as well. This Boulder park rental facility is only available from May-October just like Sunrise Amphitheater and also has a maximum of 150 people. Across from the Stone Shelter is the Jaycee Shelter or Wood Shelter. It has 8 picnic tables and 50 people can fit under its covered shelter.
The Green Mountain Lodge and Halfway House are wedding picnic parks can be rented year round through the City of Boulder. Green Mountain Lodge was fairly recently restored and reopened for public use. Like Sunrise Amphitheater, it was also built in the 1930s and is going to be the most adventurous location for wedding rentals listed in this write up due to requiring a quarter mile walk to get to it. It has a max capacity of 50 people and can fit 40 under its shelter. Halfway House might be a better option for those who have family members with mobility issues as it has a wheelchair accessible path (although the structure itself is not). This place is awesome because it has a nice stone patio with views of Boulder. For those who are looking for something a little less rustic, right across the street is a fancy restaurant called Flagstaff House, which I have written about HERE in case you want to go a little more upscale for your wedding reception. Any of these would be nice convenient places to host a little party right after your Sunrise Amphitheater Boulder wedding. Be sure to check with the city about securing the City of Boulder alcohol permits you may need.
Having outlined most of the possibilities of the Flagstaff mountain shelter rental facilities in and around the Flagstaff Amphitheater area I felt I wouldn’t be doing my due diligence if I didn’t talk about how fantastically beautiful it is up there. Beautiful picture opportunities abound, my favorite being at Lost Gulch Overlook. It can get crowded with folks looking to relax and take in the views, but when you see it, you’ll know why it’s a favorite engagement and wedding photography location amongst local photographers. If you’re planning to head back down Flagstaff into the city for your reception, Chautauqua Park is just 5 minutes away and could be a potential formal picture location with it's stunning views of the iconic Flatiron mountains. (I get the permits we need for this location every year so I have you covered!) And of course, the scenery looking out at the City of Boulder right there at Sunrise Amphitheater is why this is one of the best Boulder wedding venues!
