Denver is the home of some pretty weird restaurants. South Park made Casa Bonita a household name and while that restaurant is known for many things (cliff divers, indoor waterfalls, a maze-like interior that you can easily get lost in, and Black Bart’s Cave of course) it is NOT known for having good food. Which is why I’m feeling a little guilty for even mentioning it alongside The Fort restaurant located in Morrison, Colorado. However, they both have a strange almost old-school 60s theme park feel to them. When I first arrived at The Fort to photograph a wedding reception dinner there I thought, “Surely this is some weird tourist trap restaurant.” Afterall, it’s an adobe replica of Bent’s Fort, a famous Colorado fur trading fort from the early 1800’s. At first you’re expecting to find a lot of cheese but then you realize that the people who run the place are doing a good job of balancing the historic Colorado charm with a fine dining experience. Sure, this place mentions that they can do vegetarian, but what they’re really known for is serving food created from ingredients that were available in 1830s Colorado. That means they’re serving a lot of Rocky Mountain Oysters and the like.
A Beautiful Location in the Foothills of Morrison with Views of Denver to the East
I'd love to photograph your wedding at the Fort in Morrison! Check out the WEDDings page and get in touch with me!
The Fort restaurant’s website has a great floorplan map to show the different private dining rooms they have available and their occupancy which makes it easy to see if they’ll be a good fit for your wedding. I photographed a cute little wedding reception dinner in a circular room called The Tower Room which had a nice fireplace in it. It was a really great intimate room and an overall great cozy wedding reception setting. After dinner they were able to head out onto the back patio which has incredible views of Denver off in the distance to cut their cake. The Fort would be an excellent option for both smaller intimate wedding reception dinners as well as larger receptions. While we were there I noticed a larger event taking place on the other side of the patio with a live band and dancing at a separate wedding reception. The Fort Restaurant is one of many great Morrison Colorado wedding venues and it would be an excellent alternative for those who love Red Rocks and the gorgeous natural rock formations found in the Morrison area.
