The Yampa River Botanic Park is a gorgeous little gem of a public park that operates as an outdoor wedding venue tucked between the downtown area of Steamboat and the mountain resort area making it not only a gorgeous ceremony location but an incredibly convenient one for receptions held in any area of Steamboat Springs. This lovely garden was once upon a time just a simple horse pasture and has grown steadily since the 90s into the huge six acre garden oasis it is now featuring over 50 micro climate gardens. The Yampa River Botanic Park sits at 6,800 feet in elevation and makes a great place for those who want to host a mountain wedding but want to help prevent altitude sickness for their guests traveling to Colorado from sea level. There’s a big difference with partying at 6,800 feet in elevation and nearly 10,000 feet where some of Steamboat’s favorite wedding celebrations take place. Considering the higher elevation of this beautiful garden wedding venue, it has a really impressive variety of plants in the gardens. I think my favorite part about the Yampa River Botanic Park are the wooded aspen tree areas because the abundance of aspen trees is my favorite thing about Steamboat Springs as a whole! (I mean, not including Strawberry Hot Springs, of course!)
The Yampa River Botanic Park is mostly known as a place you can go to relax while out in nature and although it is public, it’s not funded by our government dollars and runs on volunteer efforts. Hosting a wedding here is a wonderful way to give back and spend money supporting this beautiful plant-filled oasis in Steamboat Springs. I’m currently working on finding out what the rough costs are for hosting a wedding celebration at the gardens at the Yampa River Botanic Park and will update this article with what I find out. In the meantime, be sure to contact them directly because I do know that they are one of the most affordable wedding venues in all of Steamboat Springs! Ski resort mountain towns are not generally known for being affordable here in Colorado so this is truly a gem of a wedding venue for those who want to host their wedding in Steamboat.
The Yampa River Botanic Park has a lovely outdoor ceremony venue on the green grassy lawn next to the pond. When you enter the park you stroll through the beautiful flower-filled garden path full of Colorado Columbines and tons of aspen trees before reaching the huge, open green amphitheater area where weddings are held. The Green at Yampa River Botanic Park is such a peaceful place to host your wedding ceremony in Steamboat Springs. I like that it has this cute, playful huge umbrella there too for people to get out of the sun if they need to.
If you are planning to host a smaller wedding you may even be able to use the Trillium House which is the park’s headquarters overlooking the Yampa River and Emerald Mountain. It can host 49 people indoors and the flagstone patio can host up to 100 guests. I love this cool little modern building because it sits right between the river and the gorgeous garden area. It would make for a simple, lovely wedding reception in the Steamboat Springs area!
I hope you consider the Yampa River Botanic Park for your Steamboat Springs wedding. It is truly one of my favorite little jewels in all of Steamboat Springs. If you are looking for a Steamboat wedding photographer, be sure to take a look at the WEDDINGS page of my website and get in touch! I’ve been photographing weddings in Steamboat since 2010 and in all of Colorado for even longer and I’d love to hear more about you and your wedding plans!
