I had so much fun photographing this family last week. Every year I feel so lucky that families who are all in town celebrating the holidays together think of me to capture them while they are celebrating Christmas in one place. And that’s exactly what we did for this family’s photography session. When your family is spread out all over the country you have to take advantage of the time spent together when you get the chance. To keep it simple we decided to do the pictures at grandma and grandpa’s gorgeous home in Centennial, Colorado. They have a really large and pretty backyard that backs up to a golf course and with lots of beautiful evergreen trees that we used for some of their pictures.
It was a chilly day so we split up the session into two parts with a break in between to give them a chance to warm up a little bit. We started off getting the pretty split rail fence and golden sunlight peeking through the tree branches toward the back of their property. And as we waited for the sun to get even lower in the sky I had them warm up inside their house as I planned out our last location in front of a simple evergreen tree backdrop. I had a lot of fun making them play some games (like forcing grandpa to sing to them!) but I think my favorite moment was when I said that they could shout their favorite potty word at the top of their lungs and the youngest totally went for it! I like his bravery, and I like the resulting photo where he’s laughing his little face off even more. I hope this family gets to enjoy many more moments of hilarity like that together in 2019!
