Am I the only one who felt like 2018 was both the longest year ever and also the shortest? I have never been overly interested in politics but I think even the most casual observer has to admit that we live in pretty strange times. And for me, politics is the proverbial car wreck that I just can’t stop looking away from. I partially blame this for the sentiment that it’s been a long year. That combined with some personal family medical issues has definitely worn me out more than once. But once you hit roughly the age of 30 every year goes by in a blink of an eye whether it was full of turbulence or not.
This is also my 2nd year in a row of feeling zero guilt about not planning out any New Year’s resolutions. It’s not like I was ever one of those people who came up with extremely elaborate goals with an in-depth outline of steps to take to reach said goals. Or at least I was never one to do that every year. But, I have enjoyed coming up with a quiet little list of achievable goals in the past. However, I was always smart enough to mostly keep them to myself just in case they didn’t pan out. I know some people are all about that accountability from others but I have always found that telling someone about your goals is an unnecessary step for me. This year though, I have reached next level status by not even telling myself what my goals are for the year, haha. I don’t mean to make myself sound like a slacker because I’m definitely not. It just seems like no one ever talks about the work that goes into maintaining some sort of status quo, particularly when you are a small business owner. And tacking on more and more “goals” for the sake of having newer, bigger, more important things to achieve in life is good for some, but maybe not for me. I guess what I’m saying is, I like where I’m at. I feel pretty good about life and for the past couple of years I’ve been using New Years as a day to just pat myself on the back and say “Good job” instead of focusing on what still needs to be achieved and how to get there. There is value in admitting that it’s ok to have an unspoken goal of just relaxing and spending time with your loved ones as much as you can.
And I always use this time of year to look back at the previous year and just say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of the friends, clients, and family who have supported me throughout the year. I seriously hate the word “blessed” but I haven’t quite found another substitution that accurately says the same thing. Maybe “lucky” is the next best word? Because that’s how I feel when I look back at all of the beautiful photos I got to create with these people. I looked back through every session I did for all of the families and high school seniors, every bar and bat mitzvah, and every wedding celebration to pick out at least one (sometimes one or two more when it was really too hard to narrow it down) to share my best of the best of 2018.
Thank you if you made it this far and for taking a quick look!
I hope 2019 is a stellar year!

what an awesome year! the colors in your work are just stunning.
I love your colorful portraits and I really love your attitude on the New Year. A pat on the back is what we all need to do for ourselves!
DEFINITELY the longest and shortest year, lol. Your images are just stunning – I especially love the family photograph overlooking the fall mountain vista. SO PRETTY.
