Red Rock Family Photos at Sunset in Ken Caryl
I am super excited to share these gorgeous Ken Caryl Family Photos on the journal today. If you’ve been following along with my blog you’ll definitely recognize this cute family since they’ve been coming to me for years now to get their family portraits created. They recently moved to a new neighborhood, and I have to say, I was so jealous of the incredible red rock formations sprinkled throughout their neighborhood. Unfortunately, the land is private property so if you’re a photographer on the hunt for exciting new scenery you’ll want to avoid this spot since it is patrolled for the residents that live there.
This year, their oldest son is a senior and we had actually planned to do his senior portraits the day before this session but got rained out. This was the day when Denver got to experience that huge beautiful double rainbow over the city which you can see below. I rushed home from scouting out our location to get this pretty rainbow photo from my bedroom window. I love the way the tip of the rainbow is hitting the Cash Register building! We did eventually get a chance to reschedule his photos so that sneak peek will be coming to the blog soon too. I mention the rain out from the night before because we were a little nervous that it might happen two nights in a row. But, this time we just put up with a few sprinkles and some wind and were handsomely rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous sunset sky with the Manor House off in the distance. I am always so thrilled when we get a dramatic, colorful sunset for a family photography session and I have to say, it happens more often on evenings that threaten to storm.
Ken Caryl Family Photography near Historic Bradford Perley House
Over in Ken Caryl is a really neat historic home called the Bradford Perley House which was created by a prominent pioneer and built back in 1872. Unfortunately, it has some fire damage and only the stone walls are left but it’s still a cool looking place. I would have loved to use it in the photos too, but there is a fence all around it protecting it from trespassers. Apparently it’s used as a lab for archaeology students at Metro, School of Mines, and University of Denver too. We did walk beyond this old stone house to find some really cool rocks to climb for some of this family’s beautiful pictures together. I think actually getting to climb on the rocks was one of my favorite things about getting to photograph on this private property. Most red rock areas don’t really allow it. It certainly made getting these Ken Caryl family photos more of an adventure! Overall, I absolutely love what we got on this lovely summer evening and my only complaint is that I can’t bring others here!
