Morrison Trailhead Red Rocks Senior Photos
The session I’m sharing on the journal today has a bit of an interesting story. I met up with Fletcher and his mom to do his senior photos at the Morrison Trailhead which used to be called East Mount Falcon Trailhead and I’m still getting used to the new name. Fletcher is into sports and loves to play soccer and basketball and also really loves the outdoors. We decided to head to the Morrison Trailhead because it’s a great spot for right before sunset and he was coming from soccer practice so he needed a spot not too far from where he lives so it fit the bill pretty perfectly. We were well into our session and were making our way back toward the lot to get some other angles with the Red Rocks Amphitheater in the backdrop when I noticed a snake just chilling in the middle of the path behind some plants. In my heart I knew it was a rattle snake but I kept saying “that’s just a bull snake, right?” in an attempt to will that into being true. However, we got a little bit closer and I saw that this snake had a rattle on the end of its tail and even then I was still like “Some bull snakes have fake rattles on their tails, right?” So we are still trying to determine if it’s really a rattlesnake and if there’s a way to get around it when it starts rattling its tail at us definitely making clear that yes, it was a rattlesnake and it would like us to move back more please! He did not seem to want to move from HIS spot so we waited around for a bit at a safe distance away hoping that he would eventually head off of the trail. He finally decided to do just that and we were definitely a little bit spooked for the rest of the session. Well, I was anyway! I swear, as soon as he slithered into the plants at the edge of the trail it was impossible to see him. So definitely be careful about going off trail in places like this! Unfortunately, I had my cameras in my backpack and was carrying my light and ladder or I would have tried to take a photo.
I just had to report that I saw my first rattlesnake out in the wild and it was at a photoshoot! I figured this would happen at some point, but I’ve been photographing for about 19 years now and had never seen one before. Pretty neat, but also not something I would like to experience again, haha. Below are some of the photos we got while braving the wild!
If you’re a high school senior needing your own senior photos done, please check out the SENIORS page of my website. I would love to photograph them for you!
