elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Fall Family Photos at Barr Lake State Park in Brighton Colorado

October 20, 2013

Barr Lake State Park Family Photos During Autumn

I have the cutest Barr Lake State Park family photos to share on the blog today.  I met up with this adorable family at Barr Lake State Park which is in Brighton over on the northeast side of the Denver metro area. I have only photographed there one time before with my brother’s family and I was excited to go back because it’s such a peaceful and beautiful place. Unfortunately, peaceful is not exactly how I would describe how our session went down.  Mosquitoes are arguably one of mother nature’s most annoying creatures and they were out in full force the night we went.  I’m actually one of those lucky humans who don’t get as eaten alive as others do but they were even going after me that evening.  At first I was feeling pretty proud of how well prepared I was since I had a full bottle of bug spray on me.  We took a couple of breaks to douse ourselves in the stuff but it seemed to have no effect on those bloodsuckers!  Somehow we managed to get these super cute photos despite being eaten alive and I think this family wins the award for most patient and obliging clients ever! I can only hope that the photos we got made it worth it for them:)

Despite the mosquito attacks, we were able to spend some time on the wooden boardwalks and caught some nice mountain views off in the distance for them which isn’t always easy to get this far east.  I love that we were able to catch a quick one of mom and dad alone together which doesn’t always happen at all of my family sessions and we also caught some really cute photos of their kids both together and alone.  Here’s hoping that the next time I visit for some Barr Lake State Park family photos that the darn skeeters leave us alone!  Afterall, this is one of my favorite places for family pictures on the northeast side of Denver!

I love when mom and dad let me get a photo of the two of them by themselves:)
