Blackstone Rivers Ranch is a newer wedding venue in the Colorado wedding scene and it has made quite a splash with it’s impeccable design and gorgeous surroundings. It’s an Idaho Springs Colorado wedding site that truly makes the most of its outdoor setting. As a photographer, it is nothing but a dream to work at. I am partial to wedding venues that have figured out how to showcase their stunning surroundings and find a way to host as much of the day outdoors as possible. I want to dance outside with the fresh mountain air filling my lungs and hear the rush of the mountain stream roaring past. Having a beautiful nature backdrop of aspen trees and wildflowers throughout the property is definitely a bonus. If this sounds like your kind of place too, then you will definitely want to consider Blackstone Rivers Ranch for your wedding.
Blackstone Rivers Ranch hosts most wedding ceremonies under the pretty trees next to the Chicago River that runs along their property. Nature lovers will enjoy the background white noise of the river providing a positively enchanting wedding ceremony environment for their vows. I even love the way that the seating is arranged in a pleasing semi-circle of simple wood benches creating a nice organic cozy atmosphere where you are literally surrounded by your loved ones.
As I’ve stated, the big appeal of getting married at Blackstone Rivers Ranch is that almost the entirety of your day takes place in a beautiful outdoor Colorado mountain setting. This is true even for the reception. At many venues, you and your guests are ushered indoors after the ceremony and cocktail hour where you’ll remain for the remainder of the evening. That may be ok for some, particularly when getting married on colder days but Colorado has some of the nicest weather in the country with very little rain. So I think it makes sense to spend most of the day outdoors when possible. Blackstone Rivers Ranch has done a superb job of making this a reality by installing a huge beautiful white tent with string lights along the inside. Blackstone Rivers Ranch is nestled into a little narrow mountain valley so you’ll see a pretty large rock wall with trees dotting it behind the tent. It also has an aspen tree grove along one side making a natural border wall and is completely open to the rest of the property along the other. Tent walls and heaters can be added for colder days and if you are lucky enough to be blessed with a beautiful day you’ll get a nice open air wedding reception.
I’ve gushed a lot about Blackstone Rivers Ranch, but I haven’t even mentioned one of the best features of this wedding venue and that is its location. Colorado is a huge destination wedding market and there are lots of people who have recently moved here and are technically local, but are hosting what is essentially a destination wedding since most of their guests are coming from other places. This can make it tricky for those couples to decide where they want to host their wedding. Do they keep it in the Denver Metro area so that it’s convenient? Or do they go all out and head into the mountains so that their guests get to experience what makes Colorado so attractive? Let me clue you in on a little secret, with Blackstone Rivers Ranch you get the best of both worlds! It is located in Idaho Springs which is a completely underrated mountain town only 35-40 minutes away from downtown Denver. It takes at least 35-40 min to get pretty much anywhere in the suburbs of Denver from downtown these days so this is an incredibly attractive feature of hosting a Blackstone Rivers Ranch wedding. Local couples can host a wedding that is convenient for their local guests while still having a secluded Colorado mountain wedding feel. It’s a pretty great option for those who would love to have a unique destination wedding in the mountains but don’t want the hassle of figuring out the logistics of getting all of their guests to some epic and distant destination.

You’ll start your wedding day with the use of two private getting ready rooms and let me state for the record that these rooms are not your typical bland dressing rooms. They have been flawlessly decorated in a truly designer way. I LOVE the gold flecked wallpaper in the bridal suite. There is also a huge bonus room on the 2nd level called the Glory Hole Lounge that may also be available for your wedding. Just talk to the people at Blackstone Rivers Ranch to find out how they can accommodate your wedding day preparation needs. I’m sure they will have you covered.
There are multiple beautiful backdrops throughout the property that can be used for your wedding photos. I personally love the aspen groves, the river, and the beautiful covered wood bridge. As mentioned before, there are wildflowers in certain areas and I really like the sturdy string lights hanging throughout the property. They provide valuable lighting after the sun goes down (it actually gets really dark in the mountains unlike the city so you do need to think about lighting for your nighttime wedding receptions in the Colorado mountains!) But those string lights also look incredible in your wedding photo backdrops as pretty bokeh.
