elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Summer Wedding at Blackstone Rivers Ranch | Idaho Springs, Colorado Mountain Wedding

June 24, 2018

The wedding I’m sharing on the journal today is a wedding where I have a little bit of history with the bride’s family which is pretty cool. You see, way back in July of 2008 I was in my 2nd season of photographing weddings and I was so lucky to get to photograph the bride, Lisa’s, big brother’s wedding. Since then, he’s gotten his doctorate and now he and his wife, Katie, are about to celebrate 10 years of marriage this summer! But back in 2008, Lisa was about to be a high school senior and she asked me to photograph her senior pictures which of course I was more than happy to do. Flash forward about 10 years and she got back in touch with me and I found out that she was planning her wedding to Jon, a man she had actually met in high school and had stayed close with throughout the years. I was so honored to get to capture another big family milestone for them at their wedding a couple of weeks ago.

They celebrated their marriage at a newer mountain wedding venue called Blackstone Rivers Ranch which is nestled next to the pretty mountain stream called Chicago Creek in Idaho Springs, Colorado. It’s a really cool venue with a round ceremony space under the trees, next to the river and a huge white tent with twinkle lights and pretty thicket of aspen trees growing on one side of it. I thought it was a nice touch that they planted pretty gardens around the tent stakes too.

Also, the indoor spaces where the bride and groom get the hang out with their wedding party before the ceremony begins are incredibly beautiful and luxurious! In the groom’s room there are a bunch of cool framed historic portraits of gentlemen posing and so we tried to capture the spirit of one of those portraits with our own version of Jon and his groomsmen in that room.

Next door, Lisa was posing with the beautiful white claw foot tub before putting on her gorgeous, vintage inspired, open-back Wtoo dress in front of the pretty gold speckled wallpaper in the bridal room. She was picture perfect that day with her dramatic red lips and impeccable wavy haired up do, but what really made me happy photographing her all day was that huge smile on her face. You could just see how happy she was with Jon at her side. And the way that Jon was looking at her all day you could see in his eyes how lucky he felt getting to marry his best friend.

Congratulations to this super sweet, and drop-dead gorgeous couple!

My favorites:)
