elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Denver Botanic Gardens Engagement Photos during Spring

May 13, 2011

I’m thrilled to share these Denver Botanic Gardens engagement photos with the world today.  Does anyone remember any days where it rained this hard for 2 whole days in a row?  Yeah, me either.  I thought we were in the desert here?  Don’t get me wrong.  I actually adore the rain because we really get so little of it.  If I didn’t make my living as an on-location photographer I’d probably do little rain dances in my living room every week or so in hopes that it would bring on some more of these kinds of storms.  I even sometimes play a little ipod mix called “Sleepytime” at night when I can’t sleep.  It features fake ocean waves and loud crashing thunderstorms and rainstorms which is not nearly as good as the real thing because part of the reason rain is so awesome is because of the way it smells.   There’s not a whole lot better in this world than cuddling up under a blankie with a good book and a rainstorm going on outside.  Yeah yeah yeah…that’s what everyone says is their favorite thing about the rain right?  Well, that’s because it’s amazing;)

Heather & Daniel are lucky because they live in Seattle so I imagine that they always get to cuddle up under blankies while reading good books and their rainstorms are real and not some artificially created “Sounds of Nature” cd they found at the dollar store.  However, they somehow managed to bring their Seattle weather with them to Denver on the one day we were supposed to fit in their engagement session.  Haha, do you like how I blamed them even though it had already been raining for 2 days when they arrived?   A light sprinkle we can definitely deal with, but the downpour we’ve had just wouldn’t do for an outdoor photo session.  So we made some last minute calls to see what places in the Denver Metro area could save us and the Conservatory at the Denver Botanic Gardens totally came through!  Technically you are supposed to request photo sessions there at least 5 days in advance, but we are lucky that they are so nice over there and they managed to fit us in that day.  The funny thing is, by the time we got there the rain decided to take a rest and we were left almost completely alone in the outdoor gardens with hardly any people around at all.  Score!

Seriously, life is funny.  I will admit, I was a little stressed trying to figure out what we’d do for our session as a reschedule wasn’t possible this time.  And in the end, we had beautiful light, gorgeous green gardens, and ended up with some of my favorite engagement session photos ever.  Denver Botanic Gardens engagement photos are my favorite now!

Heather and Daniel,

It was so much fun to hang out with you guys and your sis yesterday.  Thank you so much for being so laid back about the location changes and just rolling with it.  I think you will really like your pics:)
