Colorful Alternative Bride Style with Glitter Wedding Dress
I am so excited to share this awesome wedding featuring such a cool alternative bride wearing a glitter wedding dress! I’ve been photographing weddings in Denver for almost ten years now and have never had the opportunity to photograph a wedding at the Clock Tower on 16th Street Mall. My chance finally came this past week for my friend Ultraviolent Blu’s wedding to her man Luke. If it isn’t obvious from her nickname, I met Blu at the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. Her civilian name is Jess and she’s got the most colorful personality which she made sure to incorporate into the wedding details. Seriously, she’s not into plain old boring white and everything from her dress to the shoes and even the inside of her rainbow wedding cake got a nice bright color treatment.
The Clocktower is just as cool as I thought it would be too. It’s very stylishly decorated and a lot of fun to explore due to all of the nooks and crannies and stairs leading into different areas. The clocktower also has a pretty interesting history. Originally it was a part of the Daniels and Fisher department store and built in 1911. Back when it was first built, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, in the 1950’s the downtown area of Denver fell into a decline and by the 60’s there was a plan to demolish D&F. Thankfully preservationists took up the cause of the Clocktower and saved it from ruin. Today it’s listed on the National Register of Historic places and anyone walking up and down the 16th Street Mall can enjoy it’s beauty. There is a cool pdf on the Clocktower’s website (linked to below) which you can download and see historic photos of the Clocktower throughout it’s history.
But back to Jess & Luke’s fabulous wedding day. They really enjoy spending time hanging out at the Hornet which is this great restaurant on 1st and Broadway in the Baker Neighborhood of Denver. They reserved the back area of the restaurant including the adorable back patio which was the perfect place to relax with their friends and family who traveled from near and far to celebrate their big day.
And you can see our capital building with the gold dome roof (way off in the far distance) and the pretty trees along the 16th Street Mall from this side of the Clocktower.
This photo makes me realize how much Denver loves it’s red brick buildings;) On the far left side you can see the ball fields and part of Auraria Campus where I went to college. The stadium in the upper left is Mile High Stadium where the Broncos play. The Nuggets play at the Pepsi Center, the red dome shaped building with the white roof in the upper middle. You can see the white observation tower from Six Flags Elitches plus the pretty blue mountains off in the distance. The Clocktower has such awesome views!
Jessica’s ring is perfect for her since she loves blue!
Guests signed in on these river rocks.
Geoff helped me out at this wedding. Here he is hanging with our wonderful hair dresses Suzi (who also did Blu’s bright blue hair!)
My favorite!
