Winter Photo Shoot for Family at RMNP

Outdoor Winter Photo Shoot for Family at Rocky Mountain National Park

This gorgeous winter photo shoot featured on today’s journal entry is for a local family. They all live in the Denver Metro area but enjoy spending time together around the holidays. They especially like to hear up to Estes Park to enjoy all of the outdoor activities and scenery while they spend some time with each other. I love this because it’s so easy to get wrapped up in your own daily life and forget to check in with friends and family. I know this well as I live in the Denver metro along with 2 of my sisters but we always have to make special plans to actually get together and see one another or it won’t happen. So, I love the idea of taking little stay-cations here in Colorado to have some family time.

Extended Family Portraits on a Chilly Winter Day in Estes Park CO

We ended up deciding to pay the permit fee to photograph inside Rocky Mountain National Park. I find that for the Estes Park area, RMNP is the easiest and most beautiful location to take family photos at. You can opt to do a hiking family photography session or keep it more simple and use one of the many sites located along the roads with pull offs and find a beautiful mountain backdrop to use for your family pictures. That’s exactly what we did for this winter photo shoot. The day we did this family photography session, it was absolutely frigid outside. We were struggling to even build up the nerve to exit our cars so hiking to a beautiful location just wasn’t in the cards. Luckily, as a professional photographer in Estes Park, I already had a couple of locations up my sleeve that I knew would be beautiful and wouldn’t require us to do a ton of walking and exposing ourselves to the elements for too long. As much as I love a nice long family photography session so that we can play and fun, during the winter we can only last outdoors for so long before turning into little icicles! Below I’ve selected some of my favorites to share!
