elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Colorado Mountain Family Pictures for a Golden Anniversary Celebration at Sapphire Point

July 22, 2018

As I sit here and write this blog post waiting to head out the door for a wedding today that’s sure to be a bit wet with hours of thunderstorms in the forecast I can’t help but be reminded of this day couple of weeks ago. There was a rain in the forecast on this day as well and luckily for me, this awesome family was willing and able to adjust our start time to midday for their pictures. Generally, I would never schedule portraits to take place around noon because the sun so high overhead is just not as flattering as when it’s nice and low toward sunset. But, when you’re pretty sure the session will end with everyone looking like drowned rats, you make some concessions.

After all, they were here in Colorado to celebrate their parent’s 50th wedding anniversary and I really wanted these to be special for them and a nice memory for them to look back on. We met up over near Lake Dillon at the entrance to the Prospector Campground on the south side of the lake where the trail leading up to mountain views is covered in pretty wildflowers. After getting some pictures with Buffalo Mountain in the backdrop we drove up the hill and ended our session at Sapphire Point which is one of my top favorite photo locations in all of Colorado.

Sapphire Point has a lot going for it in terms of a location for portrait photography. It’s easy to find, it has beautiful mountain views that don’t take hours to hike to, and you can also get a little bit of a forest feel on the path. My only complaint is that it’s almost too popular now and you do have to get creative to avoid tourists in your shots. Nevertheless, I absolutely love what we were able to get for this family. They look happy and it was fun playing games and hanging out together during the session. And, we didn’t get rained on! Mission accomplished:)
