elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Colorado Mountain Family Portraits at Lake Dillon’s Sapphire Point, Summit County

July 17, 2018

I’ve got another beautiful family photography session to share with the world today. A couple of weeks ago I met these fun people up in the mountains to capture them together while they spent time as a family on vacation over the 4th of July holiday week. They’ve come to Colorado before and really like it here in the fresh mountain air. It’s become a little family tradition to get some extended family pictures together out here. I’ve got to give a little shout out to my photographer pal, Dave Camara who sent them my way when he couldn’t fit them into his schedule. I’m so glad I had it available because they were so much fun to be around.

We tried to start a little early because we weren’t sure if their youngest could handle the late start time during summer but we actually ended up photographing until nearly sunset anyway! I absolutely love what we were able to get for them at this session. We used the woodsy section of the Sapphire Point path while we were waiting for the sunlight to get a little softer and it was nice to have a fresh take on a location that I always have in my rotation:) And of course, close to sunset, when the light got that nice pretty pastel quality we made sure to end with some gorgeous mountain backdrop photos for them. I love the hilarious photo of grandma and grandpa with all of their grandchildren (complete with the crying hissyfit, haha) because it’s just such an honest depiction of family life. We got to play some games like “Would you rather?” and I even made them sing a little bit too.

It’s a lot of fun for me to try and create an experience for the families who are getting their pictures created. It’s not all just smiling and looking straight at the camera the whole time. I want it to be quality time spent together as a family too! I hope they look back on these and remember what a fun time it was.
