Oh man, I’ve been so excited to start sharing some more of this beautiful Colorado fall that’s been going on at the weddings and photo sessions I’ve been working on lately. Kat and Ken really wanted to get some fall color for their wedding pictures; afterall that’s a big reason why they chose to have a wedding at the end of September in Evergreen. The colors were just getting started in the mountains and I love the way the yellow of the aspen tree leaves pop against the blue of the mountains.
They chose to host their ceremony and reception at the Evergreen Lake House which is this really nice romantic cabin-style place that feels incredibly intimate while still being able to host larger wedding receptions. There is a gorgeous boardwalk that takes you out into the wetlands of the lake and at this time of year you can get ridiculously great views of the local wildlife. As you will see below, the wild elk were going crazy with their bugling due to mating season. I have to admit I totally thought there was a child screaming on the other side of the lake during their wedding ceremony before I realized what it was! As if that wasn’t cool enough, the elk came all the way over to the path and parking area and everyone visiting that day watched in awe as they passed through. We got some pretty cool photos of the elk standing behind them just outside the doors of the Lake House. It sure was a grand display of the beauty of Colorado for all of their guests who were visiting from out of state.
After catching the last bit of sunset for a few portraits on the boardwalk we headed inside the lake house for the reception. (After all of the Elk had passed through that is. I saw an Elk jump right over the boardwalk like it was no big deal! So we definitely made sure they had gone by before heading out there). With the help of their wedding planner, Jordan from Long Ago Love, they transformed the space into a lovely rustic wedding with lots of little vintage touches throughout. I particularly liked their hand-made wood photobooth backdrop which was set up in one corner of the dance floor. Kat and Ken’s friends and family definitely partied down with them and helped them make it quite the night to remember and I think you’ll be able to see for yourself by checking out the photos below!
Seriously, could nature have lined up better for us? Sunsets + fall color + bugling elk + bride and groom = Epic Colorado Wedding Photo
