elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Steampunk Engagement Photos at the Colorado Railroad Museum

December 13, 2012

I have some really cool Colorado steampunk engagement photos to share on the journal today. When Alyssa & Dan told me they were thinking about doing a steampunk styled engagement session I was excited because this genre of fanciful historic looking style is so unique and involved. And boy they sure didn’t disappoint. Their clothing was pretty incredible, but I think my favorite part of their outfits were the hats. They really added the finishing touches to complete their overall look. And of course, doing the session in Golden at the Colorado Railroad Museum was the perfect place for these photos since this genre is quite focused on steam powered gadgets. For those who don’t know what steampunk means, it’s a sort of a blend of fictional historic style meshed with science fiction with an emphasis on anachronistic technology. It’s actually kind of hard to describe but it’s definitely a sort of Victorian vintage look.  And I have to give so much credit to the nice folks over at the Colorado Railroad Museum for not only allowing us to create some awesome steampunk engagement photos for them in front of the trains but for also allowing us to go inside some of their vintage train cars.  My goodness, the craftsmanship inside their train cars was absolutely stunning!  I also love how much the red caboose just pops in their pictures.  And we found some nice scenery to use across the street for some photos out in nature too.

Alyssa & Dan,
I had a blast photographing you two. Good luck with the end of school. You are probably done by now (I hope so!) Enjoy the holidays and I’ll see you guys again soon!
