elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Temple Micah Bar Mitzvah Celebration in Denver, Colorado

Today I’m sharing an awesome Temple Micah Bar Mitzvah celebration in Denver, Colorado. It’s been a few years since I had the opportunity to photograph a bar or bat mitzvah. The last time I did, my sister in law, Rachel, was standing in front of all of us reading from the Torah at her bat mitzvah service here in Denver. But just a couple of weekends ago I had the opportunity again to attend the bar mitzvah service for Max, who was turning 13 as well. He held his service at Temple Micah which is located in the heart of the Park Hill neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. This is quite an interesting synagogue as they share the space with the Park Hill United Methodist Church.

Bar Mitzvahs are a Special Time!

I love to photograph people around this age because it’s such a unique time in an adolescent’s life when suddenly they are no longer children and you get a glimpse into the person they’ll be as an adult. Lots of friends and family members traveled to Denver to celebrate with Max here in Colorado. The family decided to keep it simple and hosted a luncheon party for Max right after the service. It was a fun Temple Micah Bar Mitzvah party using the gym as the main party space for all of the games and dancing. There are so many great shots of them having fun at the party. I especially loved his grandpa’s dance moves. And there are some really great moments caught as they all danced to the famous “Sunrise, Sunset” song from Fiddler on the Roof.
