elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Winter Family Portraits at Mayflower Gulch

January 9, 2022

Mayflower Gulch Trail + Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir Family Portraits

I’m excited that after 2 years of sharing the Mayflower Gulch Trailhead as a potential photoshoot location for families visiting the Summit County area that this family decided they wanted to go off the beaten path a little more and picked it as the place  where they wanted to do their family portraits while on their winter break here in Colorado. What I really love about this location compared to some of my other go-tos in the area is the super rugged mountain backdrop and that there are a lot more trees in this spot. I have also never seen another photographer there so it’s kind of fun to get to have the place to ourselves a little bit too. In recent years, this location seems to have become a little more popular for folks doing their cross country skiing and snowshoeing so you do have to share the trail a little but I don’t mind that at all. One other teensy downside is that you do have to walk uphill a little bit for about 10 minutes to get to the more photogenic area, but it’s totally worth the extra effort. Plus, just down the road a little way is the Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir with incredible views with zero hiking needed so that’s a nice spot to pair with the tree-lined Mayflower Gulch area. That’s exactly what we did for this awesome family visiting Colorado. Below are some of my personal favorites we got for them on this chilly afternoon the week before Christmas.
