Boulder Colorado is home to many gorgeous views and the session I’m featuring on the journal today shows off two of the absolute best locations on the Front Range. This family is from the Chicago area and have recently decided to move to Colorado for a job opportunity. Dad is already in town working while Mom and her son finish up his senior year back in Illinois. Isn’t that nice of them to do that for him? I know I would have appreciated that very much when I was a senior in high school! Meanwhile their daughter is heading back to college in Texas at the end of summer. So this was a nice opportunity for them to get some updated family photos in their new home state of Colorado. We started off the session at Chautauqua Park which is arguably Boulder’s most popular hangout spot. It has beautiful views of the flatiron mountains which are basically a must have photo backdrop for anyone who loves Boulder. So I definitely wanted to capture some photos of them with that iconic mountain range in the background. We made sure to leave some time for driving up Flagstaff Road to finish our session up at Lost Gulch Overlook. I absolutely LOVE this location because of the incredible mountain views and the rugged rocks that you can climb on. But I have to say on this particular night it was a bit of a struggle using it for a portrait photography session due to the sheer # of people there. It was crawling with people (even more than it usually is!) so we had to get quite creative with our angles. We had to climb a little further out onto the rocks than I normally do as well to try and find a space of our own to work with. Luckily we managed to find a few angles that worked nicely for us. Check out some of my favorites below!
