It’s been a long time since I had the chance to photograph at the Barn at Raccoon Creek. They’ve completely redesigned their wedding area since I was there. They built pretty new white bridal cottage with a surprising amount of space and a nice loft above the barn as well for getting ready on a wedding day. The last time I photographed there was actually for a roller derby friend of mine which is funny because this wedding I’m sharing today is for another roller derby friend. Her name is Michelle but I always knew her as “LP” (Major Lil Pain, and trust me, she lived up to that name!) She married an awesome guy named Jeff and I have copied their adorable meet cute story from their wedding website because it’s such a perfect romantic comedy style story and it was the inspiration for their wedding decor being influenced by Southwest Airlines.
Without further ado, here’s the story straight from the bride’s mouth!
“It was a late Wednesday night when Michelle and 3 of her girlfriends couldn’t wait for the best weekend ever in San Diego to see the one and only, BEYONCE!!! Jeff was exhausted after a long day’s work at the butcher shop and was looking forward to catching some zzz’s on a relaxing flight to gear up for an awesome weekend with friends and attending an Anniversary party at his favorite brewery, The Bruery. Little did Michelle or Jeff know that when they boarded the fateful flight on Wed, May 11th their lives would be forever changed!
And so begins the story of how we met….Michelle was already seated in the aisle seat laughing away with 2 of her friends seated in the row across from her. Jeff came down the aisle and asked if he could sit in the window seat in Michelle’s row. Michelle said “Sure, but we’re (pointing to Kim and Jaime) going to see BEYONCE so if you sit here, that’s what you’re getting yourself into….”. Obviously knowing Beyonce, but not totally knowing what Michelle meant, Jeff nervously laughed “okay” and sat down. About 5 minutes later, the last of the Beyonce crew, Rachel, made her way to the middle seat between Michelle and Jeff. That’s when the real fun began! Rachel introduced herself to Jeff and proceeded to ask him his whole life story. Every time there was a pause in conversation and Jeff tried to sneak his headphones on, Rachel quickly asked him another question. Halfway through the flight things got awkward real quick when Rachel called out both Jeff and Michelle for being interested in each other. Which of course caused immediate anxiety for the both of them, BUT it’s the reason we’re here today. Jeff and Michelle spent the rest of the flight chatting and by the end Jeff had built up enough courage to ask Michelle for her number. We never met up while in San Diego, but had our first date in Denver when we returned and now can’t imagine our lives without each other.”
So now you see why they decided to use Southwest Airlines as inspiration for their wedding decor. When they first booked I assumed we’d be doing a nice crisp fall wedding in mid-September but we ended up having record breaking hot temperatures that day. I loved the way they incorporated both Jeff’s Jewish heritage and Michelle’s Christian upbringing into their day. Despite the heat, we were able to capture gorgeous photos for them and it only added to the party atmosphere at their reception. It certainly did not stop their guests from showing off their dance moves all night long.
