Devil’s Thumb Ranch Proposal Photography
I have the sweetest Devil’s Thumb Ranch proposal photos to share on the journal today. I LOVE love love that figuring out how to get pictures at a proposal is turning out to be a thing now. The planning of it, the figuring out how to capture this awesome moment in someone’s life without ruining the surprise is seriously such a rush!
Horseback Ride Proposal at Devil’s Thumb Ranch
Back in late November I got an email from Robin who was getting in touch to see if there might be a way we could capture her daughter’s proposal which would be happening on a horseback ride up in Tabernash, Colorado at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Of course I was interested right away and we started planning the details of how we could make it happen. She already had most of the plan in place and outlined for me that they were hoping to ride out with their side of the family first and hide away. His family would pretend that the horse back ride was just a fun excursion on their family ski trip to Winter Park. In addition, we had the awesome people at Devil’s Thumb Ranch plant the idea that there would be a resort photographer on the trail taking photos of them as a family to explain why I was there with my camera. This made it so much easier to use my own light (which we needed with such a crazy bright, sunny day!) and not have to just get what I could while hiding behind a tree or something.
As we waited on the trail for them to come I was a bundle of nerves excited for the whole thing to go down. And it took some time for their whole family to get off of their horses and allow the Devil’s Thumb Ranch staff to move the horses out of the way. I asked them to get a nice family portrait and then had Brady and Riley line up for a quick couple’s portrait and that’s when he got down on his knee (in the snow, no less!) to ask her to marry him. She said yes, of course, and then got a second surprise when her family came out from behind the trees. She had no idea they would be there as well.
Snowy Winter Day Surprise Wedding Proposal Photos in Colorado
We spent some time photographing them on the trail with the horses and the rest of their ride. When we got back to the Cabin Creek Stables where the horses stay, we made sure to grab a cute photo of the whole family lined up in a row on their horses before getting off. And then celebrated with some s’mores and champagne at the firepit. Brady and Riley were kind enough to let me get a few extra engagement photos of them in and around the stables too. I cannot get over how funny it was that there was a sheep just posing in the backdrop for them in one of their pictures at the barn.
As you can see below, the entire thing worked like a charm! Huge congratulations to the happy couple on their wedding engagement proposal at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Brady and Riley, I hope you have a ton of fun with your wedding planning!
