I’m so excited that I am finally getting some computer time to catch up on all of the sweet family photos I got to do in September. Today I am sharing this adorable family who are fairly recent transplants to Colorado on the journal. They are no strangers to beautiful outdoor mountain scenery since they moved from Idaho, but they did want to take advantage of some pretty fall color for their family photos. The color has been a little odd this year, especially here in the Denver Metro area with the nasty drought making everything look dead instead of colorful, but up along Guanella Pass where we met up for their session, the color was looking pretty good. By the last week of September it’s usually a fairly bright yellow but when we were there it was still a good mix of green and yellow.
We drove up Guanella Pass and wandered around the Silverdale trailhead area which has a decent amount of parking for a tiny winding mountain road. There is a super cute little bridge that goes over the mountain stream (South Clear Creek) and it’s full of aspen trees in that area. As we drove up to Georgetown, it started raining so I was a little nervous about what we might be in for, but luckily for us it stopped just in time for us to make our way up the pass and start our session. I try to remember to keep a couple of clear umbrellas in my car just in case but I’m happy to report that we didn’t need to use them. It was still a little on the chilly side so we didn’t stay for a super long time, but that’s ok because little kids can only last so long at a photography session anyway.
I love what we were able to get when we let them just explore and looked around at the beautiful nature all around us. On our way back down the mountain we managed to steal one last photo of them with the lovely cute little mountain town of Georgetown in the backdrop. I really love that place because of all of its unique turn of the century buildings. If you are newer to Colorado, it’s definitely worth a visit. Particularly over the holidays when they decorate the city so nicely and the snow just adds a layer of magic to the scene. Below are just a handful of my favorites from their fall color session!
