elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Vail Colorado Mountain Wedding at the Donovan Pavilion

June 24, 2014

Beautiful indoor Vail wedding venue

I have a beautiful indoor Vail wedding to share with the world today.   Everyone in the state of Colorado brags incessantly about the fact that we get over 300 days of bright warm sunshine a year. I’m totally guilty of it because it’s hard not to feel just a little bit smug about the weather here being so cooperative. But every once in awhile the sun revolts and the weather gods curse us with an entire day of wet, rainy weather. And when that day happens to be your wedding day you can feel a tiny little bit picked on. I know from first hand experience what it feels like when it rains on your wedding parade. Suddenly everyone around you turns superstitious and attempts to comfort you with the old adage that “Rain on your wedding day is good luck!” Maybe I’m just a curmudgeon, but I’m pretty sure that some brilliant person completely made that up to calm down upset brides. I’m not stupid though, I’ll totally steal that line if it works!

It is the best when the bride and groom could not care less what the weather is doing on their wedding day. Emily and Matthew were this bride and groom. Sure, they were hoping to hold the ceremony on the pretty back patio of the Donovan Pavilion. But the rain just wouldn’t stop so we ended up with an indoor Vail wedding ceremony. From the way this couple acted it was as if that was the plan all along. Eventually their patience and nonchalance paid off and the rain let up. The colder than usual weather made for quite the cozy affair for summertime. And on the plus side, it also made the outdoor fire pit even more enjoyable. The dance floor was packed all evening and I especially enjoyed the Iranian music and dances. Matthew’s Iranian side of the family were good sports in getting everyone in on the dancing. Oh and the very best thing about a rainy day wedding in the mountains of Colorado? You don’t have to worry about fire restrictions and a sparkler send off is a possibility. I’m so happy that Matthew and Emily did this since we hardly ever get to do them in our forest-fire prone state.

For some reason the fire alarm went off and the Vail fire department came to make sure everything was ok.
