I have been dying to share this wedding with the world and I finally managed to finish all of the detailed retouching that I like to do for sneak peeks. As I was culling the wedding and going through the photos I kept flagging so many of their pictures for the preview because I was just loving what we captured on Laura & Michaels pretty rainy wedding day at Blackstone Rivers Ranch in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Maybe part of the reason I ended up loving these photos so much is because all of that precipitation reminded me of my own wedding day. I had a tented reception as well and I remember the rain making it feel so much cozier inside as we danced the night away and I think it created a similar vibe for Laura & Michael’s day. Some bride’s are so sad about having rain on the day of their wedding that it ends up souring them for at least part of the day. I get that very few brides are dreaming about big fat raindrops ruining all of the outdoor fun but there are definitely some positive sides. I’m happy to report that neither Laura and Michael seemed to care one bit about the rain and were entirely focused on enjoying the day regardless of what was thrown their way. We were able to take them out into the rain to capture some romantic and wild photos in the beautiful scenery with mountain wildflowers and the rain only added to the sense of the new adventure they are undertaking as husband and wife. Rain only slows you down a little bit on a wedding day (and maybe that’s not a bad thing!) and in this photographer’s opinion, I don’t mind the nice even lighting giving us a break from all of the bright and harsh Colorado sun that we normally have to fight all day!
There were a lot of nice little touches from Laura & Michael’s wedding. Right away I noticed their super awesome and incredibly well done metal coasters that the couple used as wedding favors. Their wedding planner, Jessica from Pink Champagne Events, let me know that Michael made them. He is so talented! I also noticed how worn and well-loved the Bible they would be using during the ceremony was. It was clearly a family heirloom. I somehow managed to get a couple of new favorite photos from this wedding too! I felt a little bad doing it, but I knew it would make for a funny picture if I tricked mom and asked her to look at her favorite child during the family formals. You’ll see the photo I’m talking about because everyone’s reactions to her doing it are priceless! I also loved that at one point during the reception, almost every single guest invited to the wedding got on the dance floor in one huge circle and belted out Garth Brooks’ Friends in Low Places. There is a pretty hilarious photo of a group of them with their mouths wide open singing which I love. As much as I love creating pretty portraits, it’s the candid and photojournalistic coverage from a wedding that really makes me love my job!
