Boulder Family Photos at Shanahan Ridge and Viele Lake
I go through phases where I fall in love with particular trailheads or photoshoot locations and then once they get filled up with other photographers I move on to new-to-me, less popular places. My new favorite go to spot in the Boulder area is the Shanahan Ridge Trailhead. I love this place because it’s not too strenuous of a hike. Granted, not all of my clients agree with that, but compared to many locations, it’s just a little bit of a hill and then opens up to a nice evergreen forest with some mountains in the backdrop. So it’s pretty great if you can manage a rocky hill for about a quarter of a mile. The other thing I really love about Shanahan Ridge is that it’s only a couple minutes drive from Viele Lake. I really love the way Viele Lake has a nice wide open view of the mountains plus a pretty small little neighborhood park and lake in the foreground. I recently met up with this great family who have an adorable little boy. We made the trek up the hill at Shanahan Ridge and then took advantage of the absolutely gorgeous fall color backdrop at Viele Lake afterward and I LOVE what we captured that evening! I had a particularly hard time figuring out which giggling baby photo to share. Below are some of my favorites!
