elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. At the bottom of the page I’ve highlighted some of my favorite sessions and weddings from the past. Grab a drink and have fun going down the photo rabbit hole!

Winter Family Photography in Colorado | Frisco Aspen Tree Grove & Sapphire Point

January 4, 2018

I’ve got a great family featured on the journal today. They hail from Texas and the mama of the family contacted me because they’ve been bringing their family to Colorado for winter ski trips since their boys were little. This year is special though because their oldest son, Jacob, is a high school senior now. She mentioned that it’s the last year he’ll be required to join them on the annual family trip to Colorado but something tells me he’ll still want to join them even after he’s gone off to college. Still, just in case he’s not able to, she thought it might be a good opportunity to get some professional photos created while they’re out here. She mentioned wanting to get some individuals of him for his senior photos so we made sure to do that in addition to the family pictures. And they brought their super sweet golden retriever with a jaunty lil’ scarf tied around her neck to complete their picture perfect family unit.

They mentioned that they really like Aspen trees so I suggested we head over to the Lilypad Lake trailhead area to begin and end with the beautiful mountain views at Sapphire Point. Thankfully we were both driving SUV’s that could handle the deeper snow along the dirt road to Lilypad Lake because we saw a visitor get stuck in his smaller car that didn’t have 4 wheel drive. (I’m definitely keeping this in mind next time I want to visit that location during winter!). I was able to get a nice aspen tree grove backdrop for them with the Frisco mountains at the Lilypad Lake Trailhead location. This poor family was starting to freeze so we warmed up in our cars on the way over to Sapphire Point. Due to the chilly temperatures, we wrapped up our session at sunset pretty quickly with the gorgeous blue Breckenridge mountain backdrop at Sapphire Point. Check out my favorites below!
