Snowy Family Photos at Mayflower Gulch Trailhead near Leadville
Today’s blog post features some gorgeous winter family photos in Leadville near Copper Mountain. I have been planning this session with this family’s mama for quite some time now. They live in Texas in an area that doesn’t have many trees so she was looking forward to getting some family photos created in a nice woodsy area of Colorado. They were planning to stay in the Leadville area to take advantage of the great deals to be had at Ski Cooper. It’s one of our many smaller, quaint, and affordable ski areas here in Colorado. Earlier this summer as I was passing through Leadville for another family session, I did a little scouting to see what I could find. I actually reacquainted myself with the Mayflower Gulch trailhead which is less than 10 minutes from Copper Mountain ski resort while I was location scouting and it’s only a short 20 minute drive from Leadville. I remember I had thought about using Mayflower Gulch before because it has incredible mountain views but just never managed to take anyone there since discovering it. Knowing they were hoping to have a winter wonderland look with lots of pretty snow covered trees I just knew this was the perfect place for their session.
Dressed Up Formal Attire Family Christmas Photos in the Snow
I met up with them at the trailhead and I absolutely LOVED their more formal clothing choices for these. Their mom wore a beautiful red full length gown which really added a nice Christmas pop of color to their pictures. Their girls looked so adorable in their fancy dresses and even dad who is normally one to sport a beard decided to go with a fresh shave look for these. I’m glad I remembered to warn them to wear boots for this because there was a lot of fresh snow on the trail and we were sinking in a little as we walked up the trail. These have got to be my favorite winter family photos in Leadville, Colorado. The girls seemed to enjoy the adventure at first, but they aren’t used to spending time in the cold snow and after awhile they were completely done. Luckily we managed to create some magical snowy family photos for them before the cold temperatures forced us to call it an evening. Check out my favorites below!
