elcome to the journal for April O’Hare Photography! Here you’ll find all of my latest photographic outings with the couples, families, seniors and small businesses that I get to work with and make beautiful photographs for. You may also see a personal post here and there discussing my life or my travels with my teeny family of one husband and three cats! Sometimes I even write advice articles with tips to help make your photo experience better which you can check out under the “Educational” category.

Take your time and look around! Type in the place where you’ll be getting married in the search box to see if I’ve photographed there before. Snowy Mountain Family Photos Thanksgiving Day in CO

December 1, 2019

Colorado Extended Family Portraits on a Snowy Winter Day

Today’s blog post features some beautiful and chilly snowy mountain family photos here in Colorado.  This family was so much fun to work with. They are holing up in a rental home all together in the mountains of Evergreen Colorado to spend some time with each other over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Their extended family is fairly spread out these days so it’s a special treat for them to get to spend time like this together. And I love that they planned their Thanksgiving holiday travels to be the same year as their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.  I’ve had the chance to photograph quite a few families as they celebrate a golden anniversary and I find it to be such a special photo session for these families!

Winter Holiday Family Photos on vacation in Colorado

This particular family was smart and made sure to eat their big Thanksgiving meal prior to me showing up for their family photos.  Being hangry is never a great idea when getting family pictures created, especially when you have some winter weather to contend with.  Just a couple of days ago, Colorado got slammed with a pretty big winter storm and the road where this family was staying was still packed with snow.  Although I don’t particularly love to be cold, I do love the way that snow looks in the family photos. It can make a dreary brown winter landscape look so fresh and clean.  When I arrived, I took a quick walk down the road from their rental home and loved the pretty mountain backdrop I found with lovely evergreen trees dotted with snow. I crossed my fingers that they would be ok with trudging down the road through the snow just a little way and they were completely game which made me very happy.  They were even content to go along with my little games despite the frigid winter air so that we could get some cute candid family pictures together in addition to the more classic poses. Check out the mixture of both that I picked out for their sneak peek below!
